KATHMANDU: Human rights activist Sushil Pyakurel, who had been recommended for appointment as Nepal’s ambassador to South Korea, has declined the position.
A cabinet meeting held on Friday had recommended Pyakurel for the vacant ambassadorial position in South Korea.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, Pyakurel said that he had submitted a letter to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, requesting the withdrawal of his recommendation.
Pyakurel was recommended for the position from the CPN-UML quota.
In his statement, Pyakurel said that he was not consulted by either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Cabinet regarding his recommendation as ambassador.
The cabinet recommended ambassadors for eight countries, including South Korea, on Friday.
