Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi grosses record Rs 343.6 million in 17 days

KATHMANDU: Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi has shattered records and become the highest-grossing film in Nepali film history. The film has grossed Rs 343.6 million nationwide within its first 17 days, the film’s producer Binod Paudel shared in a social media post on Sunday.

The movie portrays the struggles of a poor father from a Gandharva family who strives for a better future for his son. “A struggling single father battles poverty, using his musical talents to support and inspire his son. Together, they persevere through hardship, fueled by the father’s dream of a better life,” reads the film’s synopsis posted on its IMDB page.

Bijay Baral stars in the titular role as Purna Bahadur, with Prakash Saput as his son and Anjana Baraili as his wife, Batuli.

The film has surpassed the previous record of Rs 235 million set by Kabaddi 4 and holds additional milestones, including the highest single-day gross in Nepali cinema. The film set a historic single-day gross of Rs 38.9 million on November 9, outperforming Kabaddi 4’s earlier record of Rs 29 million.

According to the production company 7 Seas Cinemas, the film is the fastest in the history of Nepali films to reach Rs 100 million and Rs 200 million milestones. It has also set the record for the highest overseas collection in one week. The producers, however, have not made public the film’s overseas collection.
