KATHMANDU: Sudurpashchim Province Chief Najir Miyan has invited political parties to submit claims to form a new government in the province.
Issuing a notice on Friday, the Office of the Province Chief said the Province Chief has invited political parties to form a government as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, after Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari stepped down earlier today.
The parties have been given until 5 pm on Sunday to make the claim.
Sodari, whose government fell into the minority after CPN-UML withdrew its support, was preparing to seek a vote of confidence in the province assembly on Friday. He, however, stepped down after it became certain that he would fail the floor test.
As per the understanding reached between Nepali Congress (NC) and UML, NC will form the government in the province.
Kamal Bahadur Shah, NC’s parliamentary party leader in the Sudurpashchim Province Assembly, is expected to submit his claim to form a new government with the support of UML on Sunday. The two parties have a comfortable majority in the province assembly.
