KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Parsa, has imposed a prohibitory order in the urban areas of Birgunj after protests against the vandalism of a mosque in Dhanusha turned violent.
The prohibitory order was issued on Monday after the demonstrations escalated, according to the District Administration Office, Parsa.
As per the order issued by Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal, all forms of gatherings, meetings, rallies, and demonstrations have been banned in areas east of the bus park, west of the Sirsiya bridge, north of the Power House Chowk, and south of Shankaracharya Gate.
Police have arrested a Dhanusha local, Ram Pratap Sah (25), also known as Kapil, on charges of involvement in the vandalism of the mosque and the burning of the Quran.
According to Ganesh Bahadur Bam, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Dhanusha, Sah is being investigated under Section 155 of the National Penal Code, 2017. Police are searching for other individuals involved in the incident, he said.
