KATHMANDU: The Joint People’s Movement Committee, formed to restore the monarchy, has announced an indefinite ‘people’s movement’ in Kathmandu from May 29.
Speaking at a press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday, Nawaraj Subedi, the coordinator of the committee, said the movement has the support of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), RPP Nepal, Rastriya Shakti Nepal, Nepali Congress (BP) and Shiv Sena Nepal, among other organizations.
He made the announcement in the presence of RPP Chairperson Rajendra Prasad Lingden and RPP Nepal Chairperson Kamal Thapa, among other leaders. Lingden and Thapa had earlier refused to participate in the campaign.
Thapa, who split RPP to form RPP Nepal, recently shared the same stage with RPP Chairperson Lingiden after many years.
Subedi said in the press meet that their goals include restoring a constitutional monarchy, re-establishing a Sanatan Hindu kingdom, abolishing federalism, ensuring good governance and ending corruption.
