KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has undergone a major restructuring. The restructuring was announced by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal during his address to the nation on December 26.
The restructuring aligns with the announcement to bring about structural changes in the OPMCM. According to the revised structure recently approved by the Cabinet, a total of 68 positions, including three secretaries and seven joint-secretaries, within the OPMCM have been removed. Additionally, some branches and divisions of the OPMCM have been merged, while a separate division related to information technology has been established. The formation of the separate IT-related division aims to further support the development of information technology in the country.
PM Dahal’s press advisor, Govinda Acharya, shared that the OPMCM and PM’s Secretariat have been restructured by eliminating various positions, following PM Dahal’s plan to enhance the efficiency and functionality of the OPMCM.
Meanwhile, PM’s advisor Acharya mentioned that relieving Ganga Dahal, the PM’s daughter, who is serving as the personal secretary to the Prime Minister, from her post would be seen as non-cooperation with the Prime Minister and could lead to his failure. Ganga, a central member of the CPN (Maoist Center), has been working as the Prime Minister’s private secretary since the beginning of his term.
Acharya emphasized that the matter has not been raised within the party and the government. He stated that voices from outside calling for her removal from the Prime Minister’s personal secretariat hold no significance.
“Ganga has been a great support to the Prime Minister during his challenging times, both as the head of the government and the party chair, whether during the tragic losses of his son and spouse or throughout his tenure as the Prime Minister. Removing her from the post would be non-cooperation with the Prime Minister,” he added.
