KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Sushila Karki have extended their best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of the 76th Democracy Day.
In his message, President Paudel expressed hope that this day wil occasion would inspire the nation to achieve its goals of lasting peace, good governance, development and prosperity.
Paying tribute to known and unknown martyrs who laid down their lives in various movements for the establishment of democracy, the president also expressed respect for leaders who guided those historic struggles. He honoured the contributions of all who fought to safeguard Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interest, self-respect and democratic system.
Paudel urged everyone to contribute to ensuring a credible electoral process that would help chart a path toward constitutionalism, democratic consolidation, good governance and accelerated development.
Similarly, Prime Minister Karki recalled that the 1951 revolution transformed Nepalis from subjects into citizens. Stating that leadership had failed to institutionalize democracy as a way of life, the prime minister said the country had been forced to undergo repeated political movements.
“We must now put an end to that fate,” she wrote in a social media post, urging institutional reforms to address corruption, nepotism and discrimination.
