KATHMANDU: Dr. Chiran Jibi Nepal, the economic adviser to President Ram Chandra Paudel, has stepped down.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, the Office of the President said President Paudel has accepted the resignation tendered by Dr. Nepal.

Dr. Nepal landed in the soup after he termed the government’s decision to use the updated map, which uses Nepali territory currently under Indian occupation, on the new Rs 100 bill as immature.

The ruling parties, including the CPN-UML, strongly objected to his comment and called for his dismissal from the position.

“An extremely irresponsible remark has been made against our nationality. The government decided to print Nepal’s updated map on new banknotes. Then we heard comments questioning why it was done to provoke another country. The so-called expert advisor to the President stated that it was printed to provoke that particular country,” Oli said in the UML’s parliamentary party meeting last week.
