KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that climate change is one of the world’s most pressing concerns today, and tackling this issue requires collective efforts from all.

During a meeting with British Prince Edward and Princess Sophie at the Office of the President on Tuesday, Paudel said Nepal has been raising the issue of mountain conservation on various international platforms. “Since Nepal is directly impacted by climate change, it is actively raising the issue of mountain conservation on various international platforms,” President Paudel said in the meeting, according to his Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel.

He also told the visiting dignitaries that Nepal hosting the Sagarmatha Dialogue in May with the theme ‘Climate Change, the Himalayas and the Future of Humanity’.

On the occasion, President Paudel also said that the visits by members of the British royal family over the years have contributed to strengthening the warm and friendly relations between the two countries. He also recalled the state visits to Nepal by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1960 and 1986, respectively.

President Paudel also extended wishes for the well-being and good health of King Charles III on behalf of the Nepali people and himself.

Prince Edward, accompanied by his wife Sophie, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday for a six-day visit to Nepal.

During the meeting, Prince Edward expressed his confidence that he would gain insights into the impacts of climate change in Nepal and the country’s efforts to mitigate them during the visit. He added that youth and women’s empowerment would be relevant areas for future collaboration between the two countries.

On the occasion, Major General Gerald Strickland, head of the British Army’s Gorkha Brigade, presented the 2024 annual report of the Brigade of Gurkhas to President Ram Chandra Paudel.
