President Paudel off to Baku leading Nepali delegation to COP-29

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Poudel departed for Baku of Azerbaijan on Sunday afternoon, leading a high-level Nepali delegation to the 29th Conference of Parties (COP-29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and House Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, among other high-ranking officials, bid farewell to President Poudel at the Tribhuvan International Airport.  Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Members of Parliament, high-ranking government officials, security chiefs, and representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal were also present at the airport.

President Poudel is attending the conference at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He is scheduled to address the “World Leaders Climate Action Summit” during the high-level session on November 12. President Paudel will host a separate high-level session on “Addressing Climate-Related Loss and Damage in Mountain Regions” to draw global attention to Nepal’s agenda on the next day.

President Poudel will return home on November 15.

First Lady Savitra Poudel, Water and Environment Expert to the President Dr Parmeshwar Pokharel, Chief Personal Secretary Abagya Poudel, Communications Expert Kiran Kumar Pokharel, Secretary of the Office of the President Narayan Prasad Sharma, Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers Krishna Hari Pushkar, Executive Chairman of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Dharmendra Jha and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, among others, are in the delegation.
