KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is leaving for Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 10 to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP-29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
President Paudel will lead a high-level Nepali delegation to the conference at the invitation of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Paudel is scheduled to address the ‘World Leaders Climate Action Summit’ during the high-level session on November 13.
On November 14, a separate high-level session will be held under President Paudel’s leadership, where Nepal will draw global attention to its agenda priorities.
The conference will also include a high-level meeting on “Addressing Climate-Related Loss and Damage in Mountain Regions.” Nepal ranks among the countries most vulnerable to climate change impacts globally.
During the meeting, Nepal will present information about damages caused by floods and landslides due to unusual weather events in various regions, including Melamchi, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Thame, and the Kathmandu Valley.
As a party to various climate change conventions, Nepal has prepared and is implementing a National Adaptation Program to be executed by 2050.
Preparations are underway at various levels regarding Nepal’s agenda presentation at the conference.
President Paudel is scheduled to return home on November 16.
