President authenticates TRC Bill

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has authenticated the Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act (Third Amendment) Bill, 2024, popularly known as the TRC Bill.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Office of the President said the President authenticated the Bill endorsed by both houses of parliament as per Article 113 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.

The House of Representatives endorsed the Bill on August 14 and the National Assembly on August 22.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire certified the Bill and forwarded it to the Office of the President for authentication on August 28.

The authentication of the Bill has paved the legal way for the government to appoint officials in two commissions – the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission – to investigate more than 60,000 cases registered by the victims of the decade-long armed conflict.
