KATHMANDU: Prem Suwal from the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) has filed nominations in Bhaktapur-1 constituency of the House of Representatives.
According to the Bhaktapur-1 Election Office, 13 candidates, including Suwal, have filed nominations by 2 pm.
Suwal is contesting the election in the constituency for the third time. He won the elections in 2017 and 2022. He was elected to the Constituent Assembly in 2013 as a proportional representation candidate.
Bhaktapur-1 has remained the stronghold of the NWPP since the 1991 elections. NWPP Chairperson Narayan Man Bijukhche won the elections from Bhaktapur-1 in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2008, and 2013. He then named Suwal as his political successor.
According to the office, Rukesh Ranjit has filed a nomination from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Kiran Neupane from the Nepali Congress, Hariram Labaju from the Nepali Communist Party, and Navaraj Gelal from the CPN-UML, among others, have filed their nominations so far.
The constituency comprises Bhaktapur Municipality and Changunarayan Municipality.
