KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has declared Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu as a restricted area for a month starting Monday.

The Kathmandu DAO issued a notice on Monday after two groups announced plans to hold demonstrations at Maitighar Mandala at the same time on Thursday. A campaign spearheaded by medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai and the Youth Association Nepal, the youth wing of the main opposition CPN-UML, have unveiled plans to hold a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala on Thursday.

According to Deputy Chief District Officer Rabindra Prasad Acharya, the Kathmandu administration has prevented both sides from holding demonstrations at their planned venue on Thursday.

DAO Kathmandu has suggested that the two sides select one of Tinkune, Chabahil, Machhapokhari, Mulpani Cricket Ground, or Naxal Ground to hold their demonstration.
