LUMBINI: The last rites of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student who died under suspicious circumstances at the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha state of India on Sunday evening, were performed last night.
She was given her final farewell at the Swargadwari Ghat in Bhairahawa. Although the cremation took place at midnight, a large number of people attended her funeral.

At around 11 pm, Prakriti’s body was taken to her residence in Siddharthanagar-8 where final tributes were paid. It was taken out for creation only after midnight.
Along with her relatives and local people, Prakriti’s classmates at the KIIT were also present to pay their last respects at Swargadwari Ghat. Prakriti’s grandfather Devnath Lamsal lighted the funeral pyre.
Odisha police have taken one Indian national into custody as part of their investigation. Likewise, the Odisha government has formed a high-level committee under the Additional Chief Secretary to investigate the case.
