KATHMANDU: Potters in Bhaktapur are busy preparing clay lamps for the Tihar festival, which begins after a fortnight.
The demand for clay lamps increases manifold during Tihar when people light up their homes to appease Laxmi, the goddess of wealth.
Potters in the pottery square of Bhaktapur remain busy round the clock to meet this festive surge in demand. They can be seen preparing clay, making clay lamps on pottery wheels, and drying the clay lamps under the sun in the pottery square.
Although most of the people prefer modern lights to decorate their homes for Tihar, the demand for traditional clay lamps has not waned.
