Polls in second phase in Himalayan districts if weather disrupts voting: PM Karki

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that elections in the Himalayan districts will be held in the second phase if weather conditions turn extreme.

Speaking to journalists in Nawalpur on Tuesday, Karki said voters would be transported to polling centers if needed.”We can consider holding elections in the second phase only if the situation becomes impossible,” she added.

Karki was in Nawalpur to attend the closing ceremony of the Senior Division NCC Training at Hattikhor.

She added that the government will provide all necessary support for the elections. “I urge all concerned to prepare with confidence for the elections scheduled for March 5. The issue of postponing the elections for any reason has not arisen so far,” she added.

Karki expressed confidence that the timely completion of the elections would enable the newly elected representatives to assume state responsibilities and steer the country in a new direction. “We have made 100 percent efforts to ensure peaceful elections, and the polls will be held in a fear-free environment,” she said.
