KATHMANDU: Polling centres are being readied across the country for the House of Representatives election taking place on Thursday.

Booths are being set up, ropes are being arranged to manage queues, and necessary infrastructure is being put in place to ensure voting begins smoothly at 7 am.

According to the Election Commission (EC), most of the polling centers are already ready.

Separate queues have been arranged for men and women, while senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and physically challenged voters will be allowed priority access to cast their ballots directly, the EC said.

A total of 18,903,689 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this election. They will elect 165 candidates under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system and 110 under the proportional representation (PR) system.

According to EC, 3,405 candidates are contesting the election under the FPTP system and 3,135 under the PR system.
