BUTWAL: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has warned that the country could head toward another crisis if the politics of exclusion continue.
Addressing an election gathering in Butwal on Friday, Thapa said: “If we think ‘I am right and everyone else is wrong,’ the country will once again slip into conflict.”
Thapa claimed that the country would gain momentum over the next five years under the NC’s leadership. “We will drive the vehicle safely to its destination without causing an accident,” he said.
Stressing the need for collective effort, he said, we need the UML, we need the Maoists, we need the Rastriya Swatantra Party. We will take everyone in the same vehicle and build the country together.
He said the party had worked day and night for seven years under a “project government” concept and had now reached a position to lead nation-building efforts. “We have prepared plans ranging from ensuring fertilizer for farmers to addressing the monkey menace in the hills,” Thapa said.
Referring to Lumbini’s hill districts, he said roads had been built, but people were migrating away. “Butwal city must be linked to the hill economy. We are aware that farmland in the hills remains barren,” he said.
He urged people not to blame individuals alone for every problem and asked party workers not to be swayed by inflammatory politics.
