KATHMANDU: Police have launched an investigation against former Madhesh Province Chief Rajesh Jha (Ahiraj) on charges of sexual misconduct.

SP Apliraj Bohora, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Police Range, told Himal Press that the investigation has begun based on a complaint filed against him. He added that the Women’s Cell of Nepal Police is handling the investigation.

Ahiraj was appointed as the Chief of Madhesh Province on February 19, 2021, by the then KP Sharma Oli-led government. However, he was relieved of his position within six months after a new federal government was formed under Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Before becoming Province Chief, Ahiraj was associated with the publication and management of the weekly MadheshVani.
