Police fired warning shot to arrest drug trafficker in Surkhet

SURKHET: Police were forced to open fire to arrest a drug trafficker in Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province, on Monday night.

A police team, which had reached Birendranagar-8 on Monday evening after receiving information about a drug deal, was forced to fire a warning shot in the air after drug traffickers attacked police personnel.

DSP Mohan Jung Budhathapa, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Surkhet, said the arrested individual has been identified as Lalit Chand (47) of Chingad Rural Municipality–4 of Surkhet.

“When police tried to arrest Chand after finding him in a suspicious condition, he attacked police personnel and tried to flee with the drug. Police were compelled to fire one round into the air to bring him under control,” Budhathapa said.

Police said 36.73 grams of heroin were recovered from his possession.
