KATHMANDU: District Government Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu, has filed charge sheets against 30 individuals allegedly involved in the Bhutanese refugees scam.
Sixteen of them, including former deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand, are in police custody, while the remaining 14 are on the run.
They have been charged with falsification ofgovernment documents, organized crime, fraud, and working against the interest of the state.
The office filed the charge sheets after studying the investigation report submitted by the police for two days.
Police are seeking to recover Rs 280 million from the accused.
Along with Rayamajhi and Khand, Secretary at the Office of the Deputy President Tek Narayan Pandey, former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal’s security advisor Dr. Indrajit Rai, Khand’s personal secretary Narendra KC, Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rijal, Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Rai, Sandesh Sharma, Tanka Kumar Gurung, Sandeep Rayamajhi, Ram Sharan KC, and Govinda Chaudhary are in police custody.
They have been accused of swindling tens of millions of rupees from hundreds of Nepalis, promising them resettlement in the US as Bhutanese refugees.
