KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has busted a racket involved in online betting and cryptocurrency transactions.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office on Wednesday made public five individuals who were involved in online betting and cryptocurrency transactions.
Betting and cryptocurrency transactions are illegal in Nepal.
Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar KC stated that one of the accused, Dinesh Khadka, alone handled transactions worth Rs 640 million on the online betting platform 1XBet. Transactions by the others—Anita Dhital, Dipesh Shrestha, Dinesh Chand, and Ashish Lamichhane—also amounted to tens of millions of rupees, according to the police.
The police have seized Rs 3.5 million in cash from the arrested individuals. KC mentioned that the police have already collected evidence of their involvement in online betting and cryptocurrency transactions. Further investigation is ongoing.
