KATHMANDU: Police have brought back a Nepali national accused of issuing death threats to senior officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), including Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai, from the Philippines.

The suspect has been identified as Prakash Pathak. Pathak was arrested by Filipino officials on December 31 with the help of Interpol and extradited to Nepal on Wednesday, according to Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Abi Narayan Kafle.

A team from the Nepal Police had traveled to Manila to bring Pathak to Nepal.

Pathak had traveled to the Philippines on August 18 and issued death threats to high-ranking Nepali officials from there.

Police said Pathak had threatened to kill 10 individuals, including CIAA chief Rai, through a letter sent to the anti-graft body and a video that was later made public. The CIAA subsequently filed a complaint with Kathmandu police for investigation.

District Police Range, Kathmandu, traced his location during an investigation and initiated the extradition process through Interpol.

Police had earlier arrested three of his alleged associates.
In the video, Pathak had identified himself as the chairperson of the Extremist Group of Nepal.
