Pokharel picks Surendra Pandey for general secretary

KATHMANDU: Ishwar Pokharel, who is challenging KP Sharma Oli for the top post of CPN-UML, is contesting the election for the new leadership by fielding his own panel.

According to leaders, Pokharel has picked Surendra Pandey for the position of General Secretary, while Gokarna Bista, Parshuram Meghi Gurung, Binda Pandey, and Arun Nepal are his candidates for the post of Vice-chairperson. Pokharel is yet to pick one candidate for the position.

Similarly, Yogesh Bhattarai will be one of the candidates for the post of general secretary. The panel is holding discussions to finalize two more candidates for the position.

Pokharel has picked Rachana Khadka, Karna Thapa, Gokul Baskota, Binod Dhakal, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Thakur Gaire, and Indralal Sapkota for the position of Secretary. Discussions are underway for two more candidates for the position.

According to the election program, candidates will have to file their nominations by 1:30 pm on Monday.

The election to select the new leadership will be held on Tuesday.
