KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City, Nepal Tourism Board, and Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal, organized a public yoga event at Pokhara Stadium to commemorate the 9th International Day of Yoga.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga is “Yoga for the Welfare of All as One World-One Family”.
The event saw the participation of over 2000 yoga enthusiasts from the region as well as Chief Minister of Gandaki Surendra Pandey, Minister of Culture, Civil Aviation and Tourism Sudan Kirati, and Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City Dhana Raj Acharya.
Speaking on the occasion, Indian ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava announced that the embassy will collaborate with the Gandaki Provine Government, tourism ministry, and Pokhara Metropolitan City to celebrate International Yoga Day in Pokhara every year on June 21. Stating that Pokhara is a popular destination for Indian tourists, he said the International Yoga Day celebration could further enhance yoga-based tourism in the city.
Similarly, Minister Kirati said yoga has been universally accepted as a shared treasure for the welfare of humanity and is gaining popularity.
Also speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pandey expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of India for selecting Pokhara as the venue to celebrate the International Day of Yoga. He said yoga has been embraced worldwide for its ability to bring mental peace and happiness, serving as a means of promoting peace among humanity.
The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21 since 2015, following the adoption of a resolution co-sponsored by 175 member states at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
