KATHMANDU: Raymon Reifer shone with both bat and ball as Pokhara Avengers defeated Biratnagar Kings by 13 runs in the Super Over in its fifth match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the TU International Cricket Grounds on Thursday.
The match went to the Super Over as both teams scored 139 in the regular 20 overs. In the Super Over, Reifer smashed two sixes and a four as Pokhara scored 18, batting first. He then conceded only five runs to seal his team’s second victory in the NPL.
Earlier, batting first, Biratnagar Kings scored 139 for the loss of seven wickets. In reply, Pokhara Avengers also scored 139 for the loss of six wickets, with Raymon Reifer clubbing two sixes in the final over.
Although Biratnagar lost its openers Martin Guptill and Naren Bhatta for 5 and 4 runs, respectively, Lokesh Bam and Scott Edwards scored 26 and 35 runs, respectively, to revive Biratnagar’s innings. Basir Ahmad scored an unbeaten 21 off 20 balls, while Nicholas Kirton contributed 19 off 16 balls. Other Biratnagar batters failed to reach double digits.
Sagar Dhakal and Raymon Reifer took two wickets each for Pokhara, while Kushal Bhurtel and Dinesh Kharel claimed a wicket each.
Dinesh Kharel and Andries Gous provided a strong start for Pokhara in the chase. Although Dinesh fell for 11 runs from as many balls, Gous played an attractive knock of 39 off 27 balls, which included seven fours. Captain Kushal Bhurtel scored 31, and Raymon Reifer scored a quickfire 34 off 23 balls. Michael Leask contributed 11 runs off 12 balls.
Pratis GC took four wickets, while Chris Sole claimed two wickets for Biratnagar.
With the victory, Pokhara Avengers has climbed to sixth in NPL table with four points from five matches.
