PM Oli wins trust vote; secures support of 188 members KP Sharma Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has won the trust vote in the House of Representatives.

After the voting on Prime Minister Oli’s vote of confidence motion on Sunday evening, Speaker Devraj Ghimire announced that 188 lawmakers voted in favor of his motion of confidence, while 74 voted against the motion and one remained neutral.

A total of 263 lawmakers in the 275-member lower house participated in the voting.

Oli was appointed Prime Minister last Sunday as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, after CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) struck a new power-sharing deal on July 2.

Lawmakers from CPN-UML, NC, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), JSP Nepal, Janmat Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party supported the motion. Two independent members, Amresh Kumar Singh and Yogendra Mandal, also voted in favor of the motion.
