PM Karki urges all Nepalis to exercise their voting rights on Thursday

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged all Nepalis to participate in the House of Representatives election on Thursday, and help make it peaceful, fair, and historic.

Addressing the nation on Monday on the occasion of the Holi festival, she called on voters to celebrate the festival and prepare for the March 21 election. “Let’s share the joy of Holi. Let’s make the election peaceful, clean, and historic,” she said.

The prime minister appealed to all people to set aside all other work on election day and cast their votes. She said voting is not just about stamping a symbol to elect a candidate, but about deciding the future of the country and the next generation. “To move the country toward political stability and prosperity, I urge all voters to take part in the upcoming election,” she said. “On March 5, please go to your polling center and cast your vote, even if you have to set aside other tasks.”

Karki also called for maintaining peace during the election period. While healthy competition and differing views are natural in a democracy, she said there should be no hostility or bitterness among political actors.

She added that after the election, the newly elected government would take charge of the country’s leadership. “I have always tried to stand for justice and integrity. In a few days, the nation’s leadership will pass into the hands of the representatives you choose,” she said.
