KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has thanked the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) for its role in ensuring the successful conduct of the House of Representatives elections held on March 21.
NCP Coordinator and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Joint Coordinator and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, and other senior party leaders reached the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday at Karki’s invitation.
Karki had met CPN-UML leaders on Tuesday and thanked them for their contribution in making the elections successful.
“You participated in the elections, helped create an environment for the polls, and played a supportive role in steering the country towards a peaceful and democratic resolution. For this, I would like to thank you,” PM Karki told NCP leaders.
She also congratulated leaders who won the elections.
NCP leaders, in turn, congratulated Karki for successfully holding the elections under her leadership. “Had the election not taken place, the country could have headed toward another major crisis. The courage and effort you demonstrated in making this happen are highly significant and commendable,” Dahal said.
He also recalled that he and his party had supported elections from the very beginning. “We stood firm from the start that there was no alternative to elections. In fact, we were the only ones insisting that elections must be held without any ifs or buts,” he said.
Similarly, former Prime Minister Nepal said he believed the constitution would be safeguarded, the system preserved, and the situation stabilized once Karki was chosen to lead the interim government.
Earlier on Tuesday, PM Karki invited CPN-UML leaders to Baluwatar and thanked the party for its role in successfully holding the elections.
