PM decides to formally release Karki-led commission report

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to make public the report of a high-level inquiry commission formed to probe the incidents of September 8 and 9 2025, after the document was leaked to several media outlets on Wednesday.

According to Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s Press Adviser Ram Bahadur Rawal, the Prime Minister decided on Wednesday evening to publish the report.

However, no timeline has been specified.

The full report had already surfaced in the media before any formal release by the government.

The commission, led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, had submitted its findings to the prime minister on March 8. Former AIG Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari were the other members of the commission.

According to the report seen by Himal Press, action has been recommended against several officials, including then prime minister K P Sharma Oli, then home minister Ramesh Lekhak, and then Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung.

The report also includes statements from key figures such as Sher Bahadur Deuba, Rabi Lamichhane and Kathmandu’s then mayor Balen Shah, among others.
