KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the Inaruwa substation of 400 kV substation at Bhokraha Narsingh Rural municipality-4 of Sunsari on Friday.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the substation ranks among the largest in the country and operates on a Gas Insulated System (GIS).

Comprising three transformers of 315-kVA each, this substation is crucial for the under-construction 400 kV Inaruwa-Dhalkebar transmission line, which is expected to transmit around 4,000 MW of electricity.

Speaking on the occasion, NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising said that the Inaruwa substation serves as the backbone for transmitting electricity generated from hydropower projects across Koshi Province, facilitating local power consumption, and exporting surplus electricity to India. “It also enhances voltage reliability, ensuring a steady electricity supply, and supporting local industries in the Morang-Sunsari Industrial Corridor,” he said, outlining plans for trans-border transmission lines like Inaruwa-Purnia 400 KV for power trade with India and Inaruwa-Anarmani 400 KV for trade among Nepal, India, and Bangladesh.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet, former minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, and high-ranking government officials were present in the inauguration ceremony.
