PM assures diplomatic efforts over eviction of Nepali students in India

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is working through diplomatic channels regarding the expulsion of Nepali students from a college in Odisha, India.

“Reports of Nepali students being forcibly removed from the hostel have come to my attention through media and social media. The government is actively working to understand the situation and is in contact through diplomatic channels,” Oli wrote in a social media post on Monday.

According to Indian media reports, more than 500 Nepali students studying at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha were ordered to return hom after Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal was found dead in the university hostel.

As per media reports, Lamsal, a third-year BTech student, took her own life after being unable to endure the continuous harassment by an Indian student named Advik Srivastava. Odisha police have taken Advik under control for investigation.
