KATHMANDU: Planning Boys United has secured promotion to the ‘A’ Division with a comfortable 2–0 victory over Bansbari Club in the Martyrs Memorial National ‘B’ Division Football League at the ANFA Complex in Lalitpur on Tuesday.
Although the first half ended goalless, Planning Boys took the lead within minutes of the restart. An own goal by Bansbari goalkeeper Sandeep Raut in the 47th minute of the match gave Planning Boys a 1-0 lead in the match. Pujan Thapa added a second in the 82nd minute, which effectively sealed Planning Boys’ place in the top flight of Nepali football.
With two matches remaining, Planning Boys have collected 27 points from 11 games. Planning Boys is guaranteed at least second place in the league even if it loses the remaining two fixtures.
The top two teams from the ‘B’ Division are promoted to the ‘A’ Division, while the bottom two teams from the ‘A’ Division are relegated.
Planning Boys was promoted to the ‘B’ Division from the ‘C’ Division in 2022. It has achieved a remarkable rise to the top tier of Nepali football in just three years. The club is unbeaten in the league so far, winning eight matches and drawing three out of 11 played.
Shree Bhagwati Club is second on the table with 22 points from 10 matches. It needs just three points from the remaining three games to secure promotion to the ‘A’ Division.
