KATHMANDU: The provision of periodic promotion of school teachers, one of the long-standing demands of school teachers, has been removed from the School Education Bill.
Ammar Bahadur Thapa, chairperson of the Committee on Education, Health and Information Technology of the House of Representatives, said consensus has been reached in the committee to allow teacher promotions based solely on performance evaluations.
“The provision for periodic promotion of community school teachers has been removed from the Bill. An agreement has been reached to base promotions solely on performance assessment,” Thapa added.
Periodic promotion of school teachers was one of the major demands raised by the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers (CNT) – an umbrella body of school teachers in the country.
