KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden has warned that the public could overturn the republic if they so desire.
“Until you correct your behavior, opposition to your republic will not only persist, the people will overthrow it. If the people wish, this republic will fall. Therefore, do not suppress the power of the people and the youth,” Lingden said, addressing the House of Representatives on Monday
He accused leaders of corruption, adding, “The public is watching how, in the name of the republic, you bought aircraft that couldn’t fly, took commissions, and built airports where planes can’t land, again pocketing kickbacks. People are witnessing how you have turned Nepali youth into Bhutanese refugees just to sustain your own businesses.”
Lingden also said that today’s generation no longer falls for empty narratives and propaganda. “People won’t accept false history. Today’s youth are well-informed through technology,” he said. “The youth no longer believe in hollow achievements. The people have paid the highest taxes in history. They are watching how much went to development and how much filled your pockets.”
He denied claims that protesters alone were responsible for the violence in Tinkune of Kathmandu last Friday. “Isn’t controlling such situations the duty of the government? Did Nepali Congress and UML leaders come to power without engaging in vandalism? Did you never kill people?” Lingden questioned.
Lingden also urged the government to declare journalist Suresh Rajak and Sabin Maharjan, who were killed in the Tinkune incident on Friday, as martyrs.
