Pashupati Shumsher JBR to administer oath of office to newly-elected lawmakers

KATHMANDU: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday administered the oath of office and secrecy to the seniormost member of the House of Representatives Pashupati Shamsher JBR.

As per the Constitution of Nepal, the seniormost member will chair the parliamentary session if the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are not elected or the posts are vacant.

JBR is the seniormost member of the House of Representatives, according to Dasharath Dhamal, the joint spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

Now, JBR will administer the oath of office and secrecy to other members of the House of Representatives. According to the Secrerait, the swearing in ceremony has been scheduled for 1 pm on Thursday.

Altogether 275 members – 160 from the first past the post (FPTP) system and 110 from the proportional representation (PR) system – have been elected to the House of Representatives for a five-year term.
