Party unity must to win majority in election: Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the current electoral system makes it difficult for any single party to secure a majority.

Addressing a party program in Dhading on Thursday, Deuba said the inclusive and proportional representation provisions in the Constitution inherently limit the chances of one party gaining an outright majority. He emphasized the need to end factionalism within the party to create conditions for a majority win.

“To build an environment for a majority, party unity is essential. Let that unity begin from Dhading,” he said.

Similarly, NC Vice President Dhanraj Gurung said the party must end the harmful practice of members trying to defeat their own leaders when they are denied tickets in the election. “We need to foster healthy competition in the party. The culture of internal revenge will only weaken the party,” he added.
