Party leaders with unexplained assets will be penalized: Dahal

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the party’s central committee members with unexplained assets will be penalized.

Speaking to journalists at the Biratnagar Airport on Friday, he said that the Central Committee meeting recently passed a resolution requiring its members to submit their property details. “Along with submitting their property details, they should also show the source of their income,” Dahal said. “If assets are found to have been acquired illegally, appropriate action would be taken.”

Dahal also said that the party has a powerful accounts commission to monitor the process. “The commission has been entrusted with the responsibility of studying property details of party leaders. Anyone found guilty will face consequences,” he added.

The former prime minister also termed the ruling coalition unnatural and said there was a risk of political instability. “Since the formation of this coalition, the threat of political mishaps has increased Ordinances are being issued when the House should be convened. These ordinances violate the constitution and laws. Even matters under parliamentary discussion have been turned into ordinances,” he said. “This is why we, the seven parties in the opposition, have come together to oppose it. These ordinances must be withdrawn.”

Dahal also clarified that his party is not in a hurry to join the government. “We are in no rush to be part of the government. What we have said is that the government’s missteps could lead to its collapse,” he added.

He warned of mass protests if the government continues to govern through ordinances and protect corrupt individuals.
