Parts recovered from Trishuli belonged to Ganapati bus, police confirm

KATHMANDU: Police have confirmed that the remains of a bus recovered from the banks of the Trishuli River belong to one of the two buses swept into the river by a landslide near the Simaltal area along the Muglin–Narayanghat Road about one and a half months ago.

Police personnel on Tuesday recovered the side panel of the bus with the name ‘Ganapati Deluxe’ buried under sand on the banks of the Trishuli River near Dondrang Besi in Abukhaireni Rural Municipality–5 of Tanahun.

Security personnel deployed from the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 17 Battalion, Chitwan, and No. 23 Manakamana Battalion, Bhanu, Tanahun, conducted a search operation after locals notified authorities about the remains of the bus, according to a statement issued by the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal.

The Ganapati Deluxe bus, which was traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur, and the Angel Deluxe bus heading from Birgunj to Kathmandu were swept into the Trishuli by a landslide in June last year. Of the 31 people traveling on the Ganapati Deluxe, three survived by jumping out of the vehicle, while 28 went missing. Bodies of 14 of the missing passengers have since been recovered, while the remaining are still unaccounted for.

Debris from the other bus is yet to be recovered.
