Parties forge understanding to resume House session

KATHMANDU: The ruling parties – Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) – and the main opposition, CPN-UML, have agreed to convene the House session.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the chairman of the Maoists, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli reached an understanding to this end on Sunday.

The opposition parties have been obstructing the meeting of the House of Representatives after Dahal, speaking at a book launch ceremony last week, said that an India-origin businessman had worked hard and visited New Delhi repeatedly to make him Prime Minister.

Earlier in the day, leaders of the ruling and opposition parties had met to find a way out of the impasse. They agreed that senior leaders from both sides will hold discussions to resolve their differences.

The three leaders have agreed that Prime Minister Dahal will provide an explanation of his statement in the House meeting.

The meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled to convene at 3 pm.
