KATHMANDU: Major political parties have agreed to form a 15-member special committee to advance the Bill for the Amendment of the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act.
The decision was made during a meeting of the senior leaders of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Center) in Kathmandu on Monday. The meeting also agreed on the leadership of various parliamentary committees.
According to CPN-UML Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, Padam Giri, NC and UML have agreed to take leadership of two joint committees of the federal parliament. NC will lead the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, while UML will take leadership of the State Direction, Principle Rules, and Responsibility Committee.
“UML will lead the Public Accounts Committee and one thematic committee of the lower house,” Giri added.
Maoist Center’s Chief Whip, Hitraj Pandey, also said that the senior leaders have also agreed to endorse the transitional justice law from the upcoming session of parliament. Meanwhile, Giri stated that the senior leaders decided to continue the ongoing session of parliament until April 28 and prepare for the budget session.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and the chief whips of the three largest parties in the House of Representatives.
