KATHMANDU: The work schedule for the winter session of the House of Representatives, which is set to convene on December 31, has been finalized.
A meeting of chief whips and whips of political parties chaired by Speaker Devraj Ghimire finalized the work schedule till mid-February.
According to UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, the first day of the session will begin with addresses by the Prime Minister and top leaders of various political parties. On the same day, several ordinances introduced by the government will be presented in Parliament. “The Prime Minister will address the House on the first day of the session. After that, top leaders of all political parties, including the opposition, will deliver their speeches,” Bartaula said.
Similarly, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, also confirmed that the schedule for the Parliament’s session till mid-February had been prepared and that consensus has been reached to proceed accordingly.
The agenda prepared during Monday’s meeting will be formally approved by the Business Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday.
Chief Whip Bartaula shared that there was an understanding between the ruling and main opposition parties to pass important bills and pending laws to make the upcoming session effective. He expressed commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of Parliament and making it more constructive and proactive.
CPN (Maoist Center) Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey and Rastriya Swatantra Party Whip Nisha Dangi also attended the meeting.
