KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee on Misuse of Cooperative Savings on Friday questioned Rabi Lamichhane, former director and managing director of Gorkha Media Network, and incumbent President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Committee Chairman Surya Thapa said Lamichhane was questioned as one of those accused of misusing funds from various cooperatives and companies.
Chhabilal Joshi, former director of Gorkha Media, was also questioned on Friday.
The committee has been taking statements from individuals accused of misusing funds from various cooperatives and companies. It has been mandated to study the misappropriation, embezzlement, and improper transactions of funds belonging to members (shareholders) and depositors of various cooperative institutions. The committee is studying the status of funds disbursed by various cooperative institutions. Likewise, it is studying whether these funds were illegally disbursed, and if anyone is found to be involved in such illegal or improper activities. It has also been mandated to recommend ways to recover the funds at risk and necessary actions against those involved according to the law.
The committee is investigating the misappropriation of funds from Swarnalaxmi Savings and Credit Cooperative, Sumeru Savings and Credit Cooperative, Suryadarshan Savings and Credit Cooperative, Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative, Sano Paila Savings and Credit Cooperative, Samanta Savings and Credit Cooperative, Image Savings and Credit Cooperative and Ideal Yamuna Multipurpose Institution, among others.
