KATHMANDU: A parliamentary special inquiry committee looking into the misuse of cooperative deposits has summoned the Home Secretary and the Inspector General of Nepal Police for a discussion on Friday.
Surya Thapa, the coordinator of the committee, said Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and Inspector General Basanta Kunwar have been requested to attend the committee’s meeting on Friday to provide information about cases of misuse of cooperative deposits being investigated by Nepal Police units across the country.
The committee was formed after lawmakers of opposition parties obstructed parliamentary proceedings, demanding an investigation into the alleged misuse of cooperative funds by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.
The committee held discussions with Auditor General Toyam Raya, Director General of Anti-Money Laundering Investigation Kamal Bhattarai, and Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Pitambar Ghimire on Thursday.
