Paragliding athlete falls to death in Pokhara

POKHARA: A paraglider fell to his death in Pokhara on Sunday.

Nimis Thapa, 26, an athlete of the Nepal Army Club participating in the cross-country event of paragliding under the 9th National Games, fell from about 100 meters right after his take-off.

According to DSP Sundar Tiwari, the spokesperson for District Police Office, Kaski, said the accident happened after Thapa’s glider failed to open.

Thapa was rushed to Metro City Hospital for treatment. But he was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, all events of paragliding under the 9th National Games have been postponed due to Thapa’s demise.

Likewise, all paragliding activities have been stopped in Pokhara for an indefinite period of time. Shailendra Raut of the Nepal Paragliding and Hang Gliding Association said paragliding activities have been halted at the direction of the Nepal Sports Council.
