KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have formed a committee to investigate the participation of an individual in a birthday celebration held at the official quarter of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), just a day after he was acquitted of rape charges.

The Madhesh Province Police Office formed the probe committee under the leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP) Narayan Ranjitkar.

According to a report published in Nayapatrika Daily on Wednesday, Akash Adarsh of Rajbiraj-6, Saptari, attended the birthday party of Police Inspector Manish Shrestha, held at the official residence of DSP Jitendra Bahadur Basnet, a day after the Saptari District Court acquitted him of rape charges.

Adarsh was acquitted by the Saptari District Court on May 18. The following day, he reportedly celebrated the birthday of Inspector Shrestha, who had served as the investigating officer in the case.

Ramhari Khatiwada, Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives, raised the issue with Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa during a meeting on Wednesday. Following this, police sources said, IGP Thapa instructed the Madhesh Province Police Office to launch an investigation.
