Panel formed to probe Bardiya incident

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee to probe an incident in which a young woman from Badhaiyatal-4 of Bardiya reportedly died by suicide after being unable to obtain citizenship.

The probe committee is led by Joint Secretary Suresh Panthi, who heads the ministry’s Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division.

According to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, the ministry has taken serious note of the incident. Stating that the matter required immediate attention, the ministry on Sunday took a secretary-level decision to form the committee.

The committee has been instructed to carry out a factual inquiry into the case and submit a report within five days.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki had also directed Home Minister Aryal to ascertain the truth regarding the incident.
