KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that the government will award Palesha Goverdhan, who won a historic bronze medal for Nepal at the Paris Paralympics, with a cash prize of Rs 6.5 million without tax deductions.
Congratulating Palesha at his official residence on Thursday, Oli said whenever Nepali athletes participate in world-class competitions, there is always hope and anticipation for them to achieve something. “I have always said that Nepalis perform when given the opportunity. This time, we have not just participated in the Paralympics, but we have made our presence felt,” Oli said. “Palesha’s victory is Nepal’s victory. It has brought immense joy and increased Nepal’s prestige.”
During the event, PM Oli also honored the coach, manager and other participating athletes.
Palesha beat Marija Micev of Serbia 15-8 in the bronze medal fight in the K44-57kg para taekwondo category.
