KATHMANDU: Palesha Goverdhan (21), the first Nepali to win Paralympic medal, received a warm welcome when she landed in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.
Palesha was offered marigold garlands and draped in the national flag as she emerged in the arrival lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. She was then paraded through the major thoroughfares of Kathmandu led by the army band and groups playing traditional music. Government officials, fellow athletes and common people participated in the parade.
“I am filled with immense pride for having achieved this victory for the nation,” Goverdhan said in a social media post ahead of her return to Kathmandu. “The countless hours of hard work and dedication have truly paid off.”
Palesha beat Mairja Micev of Serbia 15-8 in the bronze medal fight in the K44-57kg para taekwondo category.
